Start
This route details various roads in and around Crook of Devon. Directions
From Kinross - take the A977 out of Kinross for five miles towards Kincardine.
From The M90 motorway at junction 6, the rest is as Kinross Parking There
are no designated car parking areas in the village. Route The road between
the Powmill / Aldie road and the Crook is rough in places, a welcome diversion
to the tarred roads. Hazards The A977 is a NCF road - Not a Cyclist Friendly
not enjoyable cycling.
Powmill Road.
Turning off the B9097 road, sign posted for Powmill, the road climbs gradually,
passing a number of farms until the top of the climb near the radio mast.
Shortly after starting the descent, turn left, onto a farm track, which
runs alongside a string of trees. The track surface varies from hard and
well surfaced to soft and boggy.
Bullstone
Continue all the way down until just before an avenue of trees. Turn right
and continue along the track. At the start of this track is a pile of
stones known locally was the “Bull stone” why is anyone's guess, though
connections with the local agricultural community is hard to miss. Shortly
after passing by a barn you come to a T-junction opposite the kennels.
Turn left and go along the tarred road to the junction with the A977 Kincardine
Bridge - Kinross Road. Turn right then immediate left, passing by the
old mill. The water wheel has been restored and can be seen from the car
park at the rear of the mill. Continue along the road passing the school
and the trout farm until you come to a cross roads then turn right.
Ford
If you would like to ford a small burn or just to use the footbridge over
the water then take the next right. Continue down a slightly rough road,
past a house to the ford. The road emerges onto the A977. If you wish
to bypass the hamlet of Drum then turn right and then next left will lead
onto the B9097, If you gave the ford a miss then you will have come out
to a Y-junction, with a small grass island. Turn right and continue to
the cross roads, cross over the A977 with care.
Drum
Follow the road through the village, eventually the road will sweep to
the right and connect with the B9097. Turn left and follow the road to
the starting point.
